Clear your head

September 9, 2008

My head’s been full with high-school-caliber drama-thoughts today, and I wish I could just switch that section off. You know, the one that still craves acceptance when you can’t think of a good reason why. I keep on skipping back and forth between the ultimate solution being a smackdown talk to/at the object of my self-righteous rage and simple violence. I could debate which would be more effective, but I’ll never execute either, and, let’s face it, it’s so satisfying imagining first one and then the other.

I rode home through the dripping campus at midnight. My bike seat was wet, so I had to stand with my toes in the clips, leaning forward and just observed. I felt the night air in my hair, watched the patterns of standing water on the sidewalks and roads, sang out loud.

And now my clogged-up mind is clear.

YOUR BRAIN

We’re learning about contrapositives! And if you’re like me, you just read “contraceptives.” I once read (on one of those wonderful Jimmy John’s signs) that the way we recognize words is by reading the first and last bits. So when an uncommon word has the same beginning and end as a more common word, you might do a double take.

If you do the while discreet math thing, then you know that I’m currently taking the babiest of steps into what is basically “logic for programmers”. I wonder if I’m the only one in the room who remembers a whole lot of this stuff from … ninth grade.
